Clinic Website Checklist: 10 Things Patients Look For

A practical checklist for clinics, practices and healthcare providers: what patients need to find on your website, and what helps you appear in local search.

Why it matters

Patients often look for care on a phone, in a hurry, sometimes while unwell. A clinic website that answers their first questions in seconds earns the call or booking; one that hides them sends patients to the next result.

The checklist

  • Services described in plain language, with one page for each main service
  • Practitioners, their qualifications and the services each one provides
  • Opening hours, including holidays, kept up to date
  • Address, map, parking and accessibility information
  • Click-to-call and directions buttons that are easy to tap on a phone
  • Online booking, or a simple appointment request form
  • New-patient information: what to bring, fees or insurance, and what to expect
  • Text that is readable on a phone, with good contrast and room to enlarge it
  • Answers to common patient questions, written in plain language
  • A complete Google Business Profile that matches the details on your site

Get found in local search

Most clinic searches are local. Keep your name, address and phone number identical on your website, Google Business Profile and directories, choose accurate categories, add photos and hours, and ask patients for reviews honestly and in line with the rules of your profession.

Privacy and professional rules

Contact forms should not collect more health information than you need, and anything they do collect should be handled in line with the privacy laws that apply to you. Many regulators also restrict testimonials and comparative claims. Check your obligations before publishing, and have clinical content reviewed by your practitioners.

Next steps

Use the list to review your current site. If several items are missing, rebuilding the key pages is often quicker than patching them one at a time.
